Clinical Workshops
Drag Therapy workshops are a great and unique experience. They are divided into three parts: group warmup, The Drag Experience, and sharing. During the warmup, participants get more comfortable and connected to other group members, warmup their physical and emotional bodies by movement based and thought provoking exercises, and get a better sense of what they would like to work on in The Drag Experience.
The Drag Experience has many variations, but typically, participants explore the items in The Closet, pick pieces that best represents the Drag they would like to explore, create and embody that Drag, and then engage in a group experience. Every experience includes questions that help each participant better understand and embody their Drag persona. There are then many different group experiences. They can include sharing with the group your Drag persona, engaging with other group members, getting group feedback, performance, creating a Drag Sculpture (form a human sculpture that tells a story using other participants), experiential storytelling, Playback Drag (one participant tells their story and other participants enact it), and many, many more. During the sharing component, participants have removed their Drag and have the opportunity, if they choose, to share with the group their thoughts, feelings, reactions, insights, and/or takeaways from The Drag Experience.
This workshop provides participants with the opportunity for both interpersonal and intrapersonal growth and change. Not only do participants get to uncover, explore, and fully embody parts of themselves not typically accessed, but also they get the benefit of the other group member’s support, feedback, encouragement, and validation. This can help alleviate shame, anxiety, social anxiety, loneliness, and fear while improving self-esteem, courage, creativity, spontaneity, self-worth, connectedness, and more.
